HELPING HANDS NEEDEDthere is a new cleaning schedule for our building. It has been divided into 3 sections, so
when you sign up you will only be cleaning a part of the building! Volunteers are needed for upcoming months…the sign-up
sheet is in the Gathering Area on the information table.
We still need your recipes for our Volume II cookbook! We have received 200 recipes and we
thank each one of you who have contributed to this project.
However, our first cookbook contained 386 recipes, so as you can see, we have a way to go to
make this cookbook as good as the first one. A number of you have contributed quite a few of
your recipes and we thank you so much. Now we need recipes from the rest of the
congregation. It would be wonderful to have recipes from each and every family. This would
make this cookbook truly a project from the entire congregation. We will be collecting recipes
for one more month. The only criteria is that the recipes not be in the first cookbook. So, please,
drop your recipes in the basket on the information table in the gathering area soon! If you have
any questions, talk to Judy Bennett or Peggy Disney
Eunice Club offering will be collected again on Sunday,  February 7th, 2010
Thank you to all who so faithfully support this ministry.
Changing and Growing…last year had a lot of changes for us, here at Lane. Walter
and Jamie joined us to lead our youth and our worship. Keith, Jan and family joined us as our
full time ministry family. We moved from the “little” church building to our new “big” building!
Late last year, Katy Nichols began taking on the secretary duties - so Tanya Bennett and I were
phased out as the bulletin crew!  Now Katy will take over the newsletter duties next month as
well-so this is my last newsletter.
Thanks for all the support of me while I “filled in” on the newsletter duties!
May God continue to be with HIS church at Lane and may we never stop growing for Him!!

   In His Service,
 Renee’
On the first Sunday of each month, you have probably heard
an announcement stating that it was
Eunice Club
collection Sunday and that the container was on the
information table in the gathering area. The Eunice Club was
started a number of years ago and benefits married students
and families at Lincoln Christian
University {formerly Lincoln Christian College and Seminary}.
Many of the area churches, including ours, contribute to this
ministry. There are no rules or membership regulations -- we
just take up a monetary offering each month and collect
items for their food pantry 2 months of the year. The money
contributed
by the area churches goes into a fund to help the families
with unexpected expenses such as car repairs, doctor bills,
etc. It is also used to purchase gift certificates from local food
stores for perishable items. There is no set amount for the
offering and most contribute a couple of dollars or whatever
they
wish to give. If you would like to be a part of this ministry, just
drop your offering in the container on the first Sunday of
each month. The families are always very grateful.
Golden Years Fellowship…will not be meeting during the months of January and
February.
Have you any scrap metal  you need to have hauled away? Joe Bennett has been “recycling” for some extra cash; if you’d like to help
him with this endeavor, he would be glad to help you, by providing free pickup. For more information you may contact him at 309-825-6646.
Chimes will be meeting on the 3rd
Sunday of each month,
Beginning January 17th.
Computer class is coming! If you wish you knew more about your computer and how to use it,
there is going to be a class for you! Susan and Jacque are heading up a class that will cover the basics
first, then in a few weeks go into any other features that you would like to learn about such as photo
editing or some other fun feature. The hour-long class will be at 4 PM on Sunday afternoons starting on
January 31 and continuing through February. If you have a laptop computer, please bring it with you. If
you don't have one, that's ok; we have a few other computers that can be shared during the class. So
come on out and have some fun learning together!
Thanks to those who headed up our annual Christmas Card “Delivery” again this past December!  It is so nice to be able to send and
receive cards from our church family at no cost!
Thanks also to those who provided the candy and cookies after our card delivery as well!  Several have asked for the hot Cranberry Tea
drink recipe that was served that morning.  The recipe is originally from Marie Trummel and was used for several years at our Christmas
Teas.

Here it is:
1 quart Cranberry juice
3 quarts water
12 whole cloves
6 Tablespoons lemon juice
1 cup sugar
½ cup red hots candy
1 can (12 oz) undiluted orange juice

Mix ingredients together. Then heat together in either a coffee pot (without the basket) until hot.
This could also be simmered either in a pan on the stove or in a crock pot!

The leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated!
Training for Service…Interested in studying the Bible, but don’t know where or how to start? Looking for a new approach at Bible
study? Beginning January 10th, a new class will be held from 6 pm-7:15 pm each Sunday evening.  Training for Service, a Bible study
program for all adults that will break down the Bible in various ways!  If you have kids or grandkids-bring them to the youth activities, while
you are in Bible study!  Even if you don’t have kids in the youth activities--come join the class--it is open to all!  If  you have any questions-
talk with Keith.
Welcome To 2010!  As we
begin this year focusing on the
missions Lane CC supports I would like
to take a moment and express our
deepest thanks to everyone who has
made my families transition to Lane
such a success.  Thank you to all who
pray “without ceasing” for God’s work
to continue here at Lane.

I would also like to thank all who
helped make this transition into the
new building a success.  What a
blessing this facility has become.  Our
prayer is to use this building in service
to the LORD.  Please continue to pray
for God’s guidance in this New Year!

As previously stated we are focusing
the next five months on our
missionaries supported by this
congregation.  Oblong Christian
Children’s Home is our mission for the
month of January.  Proverbs 3:5-6,
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and do not lean on your own
understanding.  In all your ways
acknowledge Him, and He
will make your paths straight” is
the theme passage for this month.
This verse is very special to the staff of
Oblong and has become a motto for
their mission.  I want to encourage you
to study this passage and make it a
motto of your life.

The transitions we have experienced
were very difficult.  Building this
building, moving to this facility,
transitioning in our service style, and
transitioning to new staff have all been
very difficult.  But these transitions
pale in comparison to the transitions
the residents of Oblong Christian
Children’s Home experience on a daily
basis.  These children have
experienced their deepest darkest
fears in the early stages of their lives.
The staff of Oblong is in the trenches
teaching them to trust in the Lord!

As a congregation of believers let’s do
more than just send a check every
month.  The money is great and
desperately needed to complete their
mission of Unconditional love, teaching
God’s Word, and developing the
strengths of each Child.  But Christ
never calls us to just write a check.
We are called to be in service to the
King of Kings and Lord of Lords!  Let’s
pray, let’s study.  But let us trust in the
LORD and lean on Him as we
transition into this New Year!

Keith Warner
